School District 11
Teacher's Pet is located within Anoka-Hennepin's School District 11. The largest school district in Minnesota, Anoka-Hennepin serves approximately 40,500 students and 248,000 residents living in 13 suburban communities north of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The district is home to two kindergarten centers, 28 elementary schools, seven middle schools (grades 6-8), five high schools, as well as alternative middle and high school sites.
Teachers, daycare providers, parents, grandparents and more love our selection of gently-used children's books and chapter books. Our prices are a fraction of what new books can cost and our used selection is in such good condition, they are often thought to be new... however, the low prices give away the fact that they are indeed used!

Carol Thompson is a native of Pennsylvania where she graduated from East Stroudsburg University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. She served in the United States Air Force where she met her husband, then moved to Minnesota. She worked as a childcare provider and stay at home mother of 2 until her children were in elementary school. Carol then completed Interpreter Training for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. While working in the department of special education with deaf and hard of hearing children, Carol completed a Masters of Education at the University of Minnesota. Carol opened Teacher's Pet in June 2003, after teaching at the first, third and sixth grade levels (and after a medical leave of absence due to an environmental issue in her building). After 2 years of operation, a national chain of teaching stores went out of business, thereby creating a void in teaching supply stores in the Twin City area. More and more customers requested new product in addition to the used materials that Teacher's Pet stocked. Since then, Teacher's Pet has doubled in size and offers an array of new product.
Carol has been able to combine her experience of working with children, her education, and work situations to make Teacher's Pet a rewarding venture. She is able to use her knowledge of what teachers want and need in order to help them create a welcoming classroom environment and a setting where learning is fostered. "It is quite satisfying to be able to offer encouragement and suggest resources to new teachers, parents, and child care providers. This enterprise can also be a challenge in balancing materials to meet the needs of educators from the preschool level to middle grades and up!"
